TOPIC: ONLY JESUS CAN SATISFY

TEXT: JOHN 4: 1-42

MEMORY VERSE: “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, he will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:14 NKJV)

So many people chase many things in life – like money, cars, buildings and relationships. Some get what they want but aren’t able to keep it, so they lose it. Some also get their wants and are able to keep them, yet they don’t live fulfilled lives. You then ask yourself why these things keep happening. Then you will realize that nothing on this Earth has the capacity to satisfy the soul of any man, whether fame, money or even marriage. Do you know why? Because none of these carries substance in the bread of life – Jesus.
If we are honest, it seems that we are always reaching for something. We are always reaching these things because the things don’t bring satisfaction and joy that we initially thought they will. There are some people who think, “If I could only meet the right person, I would be so happy.” They soon realize that there is no true satisfaction in people, just as there is no true satisfaction in things. The only lasting satisfaction and joy that we will ever have is in Jesus Christ. He is the only one that can fill our empty cups with joy.
When the desires of this world are trying to pull you into its web, reach for God first, and more than likely your cravings will be satisfied. Remember, no matter how shiny the car is, or how big the house is, or how handsome the man is, God and only God can truly satisfy. Have a joy-filled day, as you seek fulfillment in God and God alone.

PRAYER: Father, I get rid of anything in me that keeps seeking satisfaction in the things of this evil world. I choose to cling to the old rugged cross and to remain satisfied in Christ alone in the name of Jesus. Amen!
